Coming home there was so much food wise I was looking forward to having. Egg sandwiches with Swedish caviar. Swedish coffee strong as tar. Real bread. Lovely mashed potatoes. Potatoes in any form but fried. This list could go on and ever on. I haven’t had a chance to have all of it yet. But this post is about the one thing that overshadows all other.
Swedish dairy products. Those of you who know me, know that I LOVE dairy products. Love as in having a glass of milk as candy. Or eating a spoonful of crème fraiche right out of the container.
Then I moved to the US. And stopped having dairy products. It all tastes like plastic. I had the following convo with a friend from Canada on FB about it the other day:
Me: just had my first swedish breakfast, lovely!!
Friend: What is a traditional swedish breakie?
M: To me it’s a specific kind of bread with butter that doesn’t taste like plastic, boiled eggs and swedish caviar
+ a glass of tasty milk
I don’t know what the hell they do with their dairy products in the US, but they are doing something wrong
It isn’t the dairy products..
it is the bio engineered cows.
that is what comes out of them..
enhanced pasturized white stuff that passes for milk..
and then becomes stuff like yogurt, cheese, and so on.
I think he might be on to something. So this first glass of milk upon my return tasted like a little piece of heaven. If you Americans ever venture as far as Sweden, please buy milk, and just enjoy what real milk tastes like. Mmmm!
I’m telling you, ya’ll people are deprived over there!
